Early Years

Welcome to Early Years.

In the Early Years at Haughton St Giles Primary Academy our children are happy.  They are excited and motivated to learn through rich and challenging learning experiences; opportunities to explore and take risks, and first-hand experiences.

We have high ambitions for all our children and recognise that children have different starting points to their learning. We plan according to children’s stage of development so all can thrive and develop at their own speed. We aim for children to be well-rounded individuals who are independent, resilient, and confident in themselves and with others

Early Years education is made up of 7 areas; there are three prime areas and four specific areas.

The three prime areas are:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Communication and Language

Physical development

The four specific areas are:

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding the World

Expressive Arts and Design

All areas within Early Years are supported by learning through play and following children’s interests. Each area is as important to your child’s development as another and aim to develop the whole child.

In Early Years we aim to develop a strong parent partnership to enable cohesive learning for your child. We provide parental workshops, fun and engaging homework as well as providing parents with the opportunity to share their child’s learning experiences at home in the form of WOW moments and questionnaires.
