Best Kept Village
Each year Haughton takes part in the Best Kept Village competition. It is a whole community event and everyone in the village does their part in making the village look beautiful. Each class at Haughton St Giles Academy creates a poster which is then displayed around the village. Some of the themes of the posters encourage residence to pick up litter; to recycle and reuse; to be more sustainable and to encourage and support wildlife in their gardens. The Best Kept Village competition brings the school and community together and the children love knowing their posters make a positive difference in the community.
Each month the children in year 6 become budding reporters for the Parish Magazine. They visit each class and find out what exciting things they have been learning, and take photos of key events or lessons that are being undertaken. The reporters then use all the information they have gathered and write a report for the Parish Magazine. The children love seeing their writing being published and keeping the community informed with what is happening in our school.
