Governance

The Department of Education sets out that the purpose of Governance is to provide confident, strategic leadership and to create robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance.

Governors are a voluntary body made up of both parents and members of local community.

As the Government has developed its concept of Governance it has put out significant recent guidance and advice to define the role of governors. We have increased our skills and knowledge accordingly.

Following the departure of Mrs Cook we have undergone a restructure and fresh training in our roles as we embrace the challenges ahead.

Governors have three core functions

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  2. Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and it’s pupils, and the performance management of staff
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure money is well spent.

As you know we are currently a part of the West Stafford Multi Academy Trust (MAT) with Gnosall St Lawrence and Woodseaves.

There is a scheme of delegation from the directors of the MAT board which sets out, and limits, the responsibilities of the local governing body.

We are committed to ensuring that each child within our school family achieves their best and excels to their potential.
